20 Tips to Reduce Time Wasters…

Posted in Uncategorized on March 31, 2010 by uniquefaz

5 Tips Before You Start!
# Why are we doing this? Only do something if it needs to be done, fits in with your objectives, and can be justified with clear outcomes which provide benefit.

# Are our objectives SMART? Specific, measurable, achieveable, relevant, time-bounded.

# Is it clear which activities deliver results? In relation to our objectives. Remember the 80/20 rule.

# Is this activity reviewed regularly? Anything run by human beings will tend towards complexity. Reducing time wasters is an ongoing activity.

# Are we confusing activity with productivity? Or allowing others to do so.

5 Ways to Reduce Your Time Wasters!
Here are some simple steps to take to help reduce your own wasteful activity. It’s easy for busy managers to be distracted by low value activities and tasks. Things that don’t really produce optimum use of your valuable time. What should you do?

# Ask yourself: why am I doing this. The best and most effective way to deal with time wasters is not to do the task.

# Get someone else to do it. If it has to be done then find someone else to do it. Work to your strengths and agenda.

# Do it quickly! Low value activities can usually be done to acceptable standards quite quickly. Don’t waste precious time on things that don’t really matter.

# Simplify then automate. If the activity needs to be done make it as easy as possible, then automate it. Develop and implement simple, standard procedures.

# Do low value activities when your energy is low. Schedule your most meaningful work for times when you feel most productive.

5 Ways to Reduce Staff Time Wasters!
Whether they phone you, come into your office, or stop you in the hall, make sure you watch out for time wasters when dealing with your people.

# Watch the clock. Not theirs, yours! Remember, it’s your time they’re taking so stay conscious of time passing.

# Allocate time. Whether the meeting is informal or formal, state how long you can give and stick to it!

# Get to the point. As quickly as possible summarize the purpose of the discussion and decide if it requires immediate or deferred action. Preferably theirs!

# Ask why? Nicely and often, especially if you are being asked to do something. Beware of “upward delegation”.

# Say no! Nicely and often, as often as is needed to keep your time under control.

5 Ways to Reduce Your Boss Time Wasters!
Firstly your boss will need your time and that is legitimate. What isn’t legitimate is an over loading, or wasting of your time.

So what things can you do, and what do you need to look out for?

# Tell your boss when you are reaching saturation point.
# Make your boss aware of the consequences if she tries to overload you: “yes I could get that done by then, but that would delay this…”
# Don’t say yes to everything your boss asks you to do, negotiate!
# Ask your boss to prioritise when she gives you a list of tasks.
# When asked to do something: find out details and, if possible, say you’ll get back to her, or take a look at it. Then:

Global Warming

Posted in Uncategorized on February 23, 2010 by uniquefaz

Waves are pounding the Pacific Coast like never before, which is not news to coastal residents who are seeing increasing erosion and higher surf surges. New analysis of offshore buoy records indicates the highest waves advancing toward Oregon and Washington on the Pacific in winter months now reach 46 feet (14 meters), much higher than the 33 foot (10 m) estimates that were made as recently as 1996. In a study published last month and another in 2008, Peter Ruggiero and colleagues from Oregon State University and the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries report that the cause of these dramatically higher waves is not completely certain, but “likely due to Earth’s changing climate.” The scientists also cite a “progressive rise in global sea level” in the increase in the damage caused by waves, but say the rapidly increasing wave height “will have a more significant impact on coastal erosion and flood probabilities than even relatively extreme sea level rise scenarios.”

10 Ways to Go Green and Save Green

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2009 by uniquefaz

• Save energy to save money.
• Set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer to save on heating and cooling costs.
• Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out.
• Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Or, use a “smart” power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts “phantom” or “vampire” energy use.
• Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water.
• Use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying.

• Save water to save money.
• Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too.
• Install a low-flow showerhead. They don’t cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.
• Make sure you have a faucet aerator on each faucet. These inexpensive appliances conserve heat and water, while keeping water pressure high.
• Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area.

• Less gas = more money (and better health!).
• Walk or bike to work. This saves on gas and parking costs while improving your cardiovascular health and reducing your risk of obesity.
• Consider telecommuting if you live far from your work. Or move closer. Even if this means paying more rent, it could save you money in the long term.
• Lobby your local government to increase spending on sidewalks and bike lanes. With little cost, these improvements can pay huge dividends in bettering your health and reducing traffic.

• Eat smart.
• If you eat meat, add one meatless meal a week. Meat costs a lot at the store-and it’s even more expensive when you consider the related environmental and health costs.
• Buy locally raised, humane, and organic meat, eggs, and dairy whenever you can. Purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy.
• Watch videos about why local food and sustainable seafood are so great.
• Whatever your diet, eat low on the food chain [pdf]. This is especially true for seafood.

• Skip the bottled water.
• Use a water filter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it generates large amounts of container waste.
• Bring a reusable water bottle, preferably aluminum rather than plastic, with you when traveling or at work.
• Check out this short article for the latest on bottled water trends.

• Think before you buy.
• Go online to find new or gently used secondhand products. Whether you’ve just moved or are looking to redecorate, consider a service like craigslist or FreeSharing to track down furniture, appliances, and other items cheaply or for free.
• Check out garage sales, thrift stores, and consignment shops for clothing and other everyday items.
• When making purchases, make sure you know what’s “Good Stuff” and what isn’t.
• Watch a video about what happens when you buy things. Your purchases have a real impact, for better or worse.

• Borrow instead of buying.
• Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books.
• Share power tools and other appliances. Get to know your neighbors while cutting down on the number of things cluttering your closet or garage.

• Buy smart.
• Buy in bulk. Purchasing food from bulk bins can save money and packaging.
• Wear clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use.
• Invest in high-quality, long-lasting products. You might pay more now, but you’ll be happy when you don’t have to replace items as frequently (and this means less waste!).

• Keep electronics out of the trash.
• Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible.
• Donate or recycle them responsibly when the time comes. E-waste contains mercury and other toxics and is a growing environmental problem.
• Recycle your cell phone.
• Ask your local government to set up an electronics recycling and hazardous waste collection event.

• Make your own cleaning supplies.
• The big secret: you can make very effective, non-toxic cleaning products whenever you need them. All you need are a few simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, lemon, and soap.
• Making your own cleaning products saves money, time, and packaging-not to mention your indoor air quality.

Sri Lankan Cops – Useful Tips

Sri Lankan Cops – Useful Tips

1. A single Cop, CANNOT stop you on the road!
(it’s prohibited and you are not suppose to Stop either !)

2. A single cop CANNOT seize your driving license!

3. Only a ‘traffic control’ cop has the authority to request
anything MORE than your NIC when you are behind wheels.

4. A single traffic cop NEVER can press charges against you.
HE MUST HAVE A WITNESS IF DOES SO.

5. That’s why you always find ‘two’ cops together

6. Police is a peace controlling force. NOT AN ARMED FORCE!!!
They are prohibited by LAW to carry anything more than a BATON!
(but due to the prevailing WAR, they are issued Guns by a supreme
court ruling, till the war ENDS)

7. So, if a Cop pulls a gun on you, YOU CAN sue him!!!

8. If a COP claims that you are drunk, you have the FULL right
to ask for a ‘balloon test’, if they DO NOT HAVE it in
their possession on the time of your request, you can GO.

9. Only Traffic Cops have the RIGHT to stop any moving
vehicle. (that’s why you find at least 1 normal cop in
every checkpoint even though they are manned by Army)

10. COPS, CANNOT ENTER YOUR HOME OR WORK
PREMISES without a court Order. You have the
FULLEST right ASK for it, if they try to enter and also
DENY their entrance if you ‘feel’ like it.

11. A traffic cop CANNOT seize your driving license UNTIL he
fully states the crime you have committed and the relating
penal code violation. If he is unsuccessful in stating
them, you can go free

12. If a traffic cop seizes your license by force and ask you
to come to the police station to collect it. DO NOT GO !
Lodge a complain directly to Police commission or the
‘Provincial IGP’, YOU can get the cop SACKED for his
misconduct and unruly behaviour.

13. (for girls), If a COP asks for your Identifications and
(if you think he’s doing it on purpose to harass you)
you CAN deny his request. He
cannot arrest you ! you have the RIGHT to request for a
Female Police officer.

14. (for Girls) If you are asked to be Body checked, it’s your
right to get it done by a female cop. If they don’t have
one present, DENY their action.

Breathing Therapy

Posted in Uncategorized on September 7, 2009 by uniquefaz

The nose has a left and a right side; we use both to inhale and exhale.

Actually they ar e different; you would be able to feel the difference.
The right side represents the sun, left side represents the moon.
During a headache, try to close your right nose and use your left nose to breathe.

In about 5 mins, your headache will be gone? If you feel tired, just reverse, close your left nose and breathe through your right nose.
After a while, you will feel your mind is refreshed.

Right side belongs to ‘hot’, so it gets heated up easily, left side belongs to ‘cold’.

Most females breathe with their left noses, so they get “cooled off” faster.

Most of the guys breathe with their right noses, they get worked up.

Do you notice the moment we wake up, which side breathes faster? Left or right? ?

If left is faster, you will feel tired.
So, close your left nose and use your right nose for breathing, you will get refreshed quickly.

This can be taught to kids, but it is more effective when practiced by adults.

My friend used to have bad headaches and was always visiting the doctor.

There was this period when he suffered headache literally every night, unable to study.

He took painkillers, did not work.

He decided to try out the breathing therapy here: closed his right nose and breathed through his left nose.

In less than a week, his headaches were gone! He continued the exercise for one month.

This alternative natural therapy without medication is something that he has experienced.

So, why not give it a try?
